The Santa Rita Hills Appellation in Santa Barbara County is part of the larger Santa Ynez Valley AVA. It is basically located between the towns of Lompoc and Buellton with the Purisima Hills on the North, the Santa Rosa Hills on the South and the Santa Ynez River running right through the middle. The region is just about 10 miles away from the Pacific Ocean and Point Conception accounting for the daily fog and maritime breezes that cool down the vineyards. This provides the prolonged hang time and ideal growing conditions for world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The rocky soil and east/west hill configuration also make the unique area perfect for cool climate varietals.
