2021 Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir
~ Bill Brosseau, Director of Winemaking

"Perfumed, almost floral, nose of pomegranate and black raspberries. Excellent intensity and purity of fruit with bright, lively acidity; firmly structured and focused with well-integrated oak and a dry finish. Like the Santa Lucia Highlands blend, this wine is youthful and will benefit from more time in bottle. Should last a long time. Matured 11 months in 66% new French oak."

"The 2021 Santa Rita Hills bottling of pinot noir comes in at the same 14.1 percent octane as the Santa Lucia Highlands cuvée, but the wine was given a bit more new oak during its elevage, as it was raised in sixty percent new casks in this vintage. The wine is deeper and more black fruity in personality, offering up a bouquet of dark berries, black cherries, woodsmoke, raw cocoa, dark soil tones, a hint of violet and a well done framing of cedary new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and quite precise, with an excellent core of black fruit, good mineral undertow, ripe tannins and fine focus on the long, very well balanced and nascently complex finish. This is more structured than the Santa Lucia Highlands bottling this year and will demand some cellaring before it really starts to drink with generosity, but it is going to be a very fine bottle once it starts to blossom. (Drink between 2028-2065)."

"This is a winning appellation cuvée from this single-vineyard specialist. Dark and pure aromas of boysenberry and oak lead from the nose into a well structured palate, loaded with berry, wood spice and a vanilla-kissed finish."

"Delicious, offering vivid mulberry and plum notes that glide through, with alluring red tea and anise accents. Sleek finish. Drink now through 2027. 300 cases made."

"Moderately dark garnet color in the glass. Welcoming aromas of dark cherry, pomegranate, vanilla and a hint of toast. A flood of delicious dark stone and purple berry fruits greet the palate. and really pops. The bright acidity reflects its SRH origins. The intense fruitiness carries through an impressive finish. Oak plays a very subordinate role in this wine."

"A fresh and vivid wine with cherry-drops, wild strawberries, spices and rosemary. Medium body. Textured and polished with a fruit-forward, sleek finish. Drink now."
